Improve the speed of your Internet Conection by choosing th Best DNS for you

I just came across a nice piece of at code.google.com , It is just a DNS benchmarking utility to give you the best possible DNS in your location to speed of your connection. We all know that DNS is the most important part of the internet. While surfing DNS servers are first called by the browser to convert the URL in to the IP address of that particular site. Therefore if the DNS server is slow there will be initial delay before the website starts to load & even the best connection will lag behind if the DNS is slow. Most of the times DNS provided by our ISPs are not the fastest & nor does that means that 3rd party DNS is better or faster they can be better or worse. There are many 3rd party DNS server like Open DNS, Google Public DNS, Ultra DNS, etc... Not all may be suitable for you so how do you choose the one best for you that's where 'namebench' steps in. Its a cross platform utility which tests all available DNS for your connection & shows the result...

Ubuntu-based Windows XP looker shows up

An Ubuntu-based Linux distro identical in look and feel to Microsoft's Windows XP's been updated. Ylmf OS 3.0 has been released  from a Chinese software maker with the familiar Luna theme found in Microsoft's Windows 7 and Windows Vista predecessor. The Linux distro has been updated to Ubuntu 10.04, released in April, and packs OpenOffice 3.2, SMPlayer, Audacious music player, Firefox, and the familiar Windows XP look. Other features include version 2.6.32-22.33 of the kernel.                                                        Not XP but Ubuntu based Yimf OS News of the distro leaked in December last year, but in January Microsoft said it had no plans to take legal action against Ylmf's creator. Not that imitators always get away with it: Chinese authorities successfully prosecuted the creators of China's most popular pirated edition of W...

Transfer Music & other data to iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, iPad without iTunes with Ubuntu 10.04

For there to be any chance of "The Year of Linux on the Desktop" ever becoming a reality, certain things have to happen. One of those things (like it or not) is for a major distribution to support the most popular portable media players on the planet -- the iPhone and iPod Touch. And it looks as though Canonical has stepped up to the plate. According to reports at Ubuntuforums, Lucid Lynx supports Apple's hardware without breaking a sweat. The Nautilus file manager can browse and access files, but that's really not too interesting to the average user. What does matter is that Rythmbox can play your tunes right from your iPhone, iPad or Touch. Pair that with the Ubuntu One Music Store, and it's clear that Lucid is well on its way to becoming an extremely consumer-friendly distro. It may not sound like much, but when I had Ubuntu systems on display for retail customers nearly everyone asked "Can I do all the same things I can on Windows with this?" w...

Dell Says Ubuntu Is Safer Than Windows

Dell has long made the vast majority of its money selling Windows-based PCs. In mid 2007, the company did start selling some computers pre-loaded with Ubuntu, but they were not heavily promoted, and the selection left something to be desired. It appears, though, that the company is prepared to push a little harder on behalf of the open-source OS. A new post on the Dell Ubuntu page extols the virtues of the Linux distribution with a "top ten list" of things you should know about Ubuntu. Most are fairly pedestrian bits about it being "simple and elegant," and its impressively short boot times. But number six on the list, while undeniable, is bound to ruffle some feathers: "Ubuntu is safer than Microsoft Windows." The full entry on the list reads: "The vast majority of viruses and spyware written by hackers are not designed to target and attack Linux." That's an accurate and diplomatic way to make the point, but it's the blunter title of...

Microsoft Office 2010 not yet worth the upgrade

Is even Microsoft tired of the Microsoft Office upgrade treadmill? Its new Microsoft Office 2010 invites that heretical thought. The Redmond, Wash., company doesn't give owners of older versions a discount -- but does offer two limited but free editions of Office, the online-only Office Web Apps r and theOffice Starter Edition bundle of Word and Excelincluded on some new computers. Microsoft doesn't seem too anxious to have users move to this year's model. And at its list prices for its two home versions-- $149.99 for the Home and Student bundle of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, $279.99 for the Home and Business edition that adds Outlook -- few should. (If you bought the old Office 2007 after March 5, you can get 2010 for free. If your new PC has a locked copy of Office 2010 pre-loaded, activating it with a"Product Key Card" bought at Microsoft's site saves about $30 on Home and Student and $80 on Home and Business.) Among Office 2010's cons...

Apple in a Fix- Adobe claims that the Flash player in Mac X security update

Since the day Apple first introduced a software upgrade for its Mac OS 9 these updates have never been a piece of cake for Apple. Most of these updates have created compatibility problems on the users’ machine and if not compatibility then these updates create problems like OS crashing and buggy applications. But, at least with these sorts of problems Apple tried to give its best to the consumers and not cheat them. But, this time the trend seems to be changing. It has been reported the latest security update released by Apple contains the previous version (released in February) of the Flash player. Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs had earlier said in an interview to the Wall journal that the Flash player is slow, buggy and obsolete and so had not been incorporated in the iPhones. Retaliating to this Adobe that is the manufacturer of the Flash player said that the Flash player that Apple is giving in the security updates for Mac OS X is not the latest version of the product. Besides the A...

PETA Petition by not eating at KFC

KFC suppliers cram birds into huge waste-filled factories, breed and drug them to grow so large that they can’t even walk, and often break their wings and legs. At slaughter, the birds’ throats are slit and they are dropped into tanks of scalding-hot water—often while they are still conscious. It would be illegal for KFC to abuse dogs, cats, pigs, or cows in these ways. KFC’s own animal welfare advisors have asked the company to take steps to eliminate these abuses, but KFC refuses to do so. Many advisors have now resigned in frustration. Please join Pamela Anderson, Sir Paul McCartney, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, The Rev. Al Sharpton, and countless other kind people worldwide by not eating at KFC.
